Herron was a first team All-American in 1992 &1993 at the University of New Mexico and in '93 played on the U.S. Walker Cup team, going 3-0 at Interlachen in his home state of Minnesota. He earned his PGA Tour card with a 12th place finish at 1995 Q-School. He won his seventh start on the PGA Tour, taking the 1996 Honda Classic wire-to-wire after an opening round 62. . . His nickname is "Lumpy.". . .Grandfather Carson Lee Herron played in the 1934 U.S. Open and won state titles in Minnesota and Iowa. . . His father, Carson, played in 1963 U.S. Open. . . .Is one of only two players that has defeated Tiger Woods in the U.S. Amateur. Herron beat Tiger in the second round in 1992. |
