With Masters Champion Bob Goalby as his uncle and exemplar, it may have been inevitable that Haas would have a career in golf. At age 5, Haas took his first swings with a short, broken club that Goalby had regripped. Under Goalby's watchful eye, Haas placed third in the first tournament he ever entered, the National Pee Wee championship. He had a fine amateur career, capped off by playing on the 1975 Walker Cup Team and winning the NCAA Championship. |
