Michael started playing golf at the age of ten, encouraged by his father for whom he served as caddie . . .The strongly built, amiable Maori from Wellington led New Zealand to top amateur honors in the 1992 Eisenhower Trophy. 1992 was also a great year for him as he won the Australian and New South Wales Amateur championships and was named the New Zealand Young Sportsman of the year and Australasian Amateur Golfer of the year. He also won the 1991 New Zealand Maori championship and was runner-up 1992 World Individual Eisenhower Trophy. Played on the Australian Tour in 93, he was their Rookie of the year in '83. he now plays full time on the PGA European Tour. . . Member of 2000 Presidents Cup Team . . .1993 Australasia Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 11; in money - 9; top ten finishes - 4; money $117,169 (ranked 7th); won Canon Challenge. |
