Aug. 15, 1999 -- At age 23, Tiger Woods becomes the fifth-youngest PGA Champion and the youngest since Jack Nicklaus in 1963. Nineteen-year-old Sergio Garcia, the youngest player to compete in the PGA Championship since Gene Sarazen in 1921, finishes second, one stroke behind Woods. A record 92 of the world's top 100 players are in the field at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club to compete for the Wanamaker Trophy.
