Started to play golf at the age of four when his family got him started...Did not think about turning professional until after his senior year at Florida State when he won the Metro Conference title . . . Earned his Tour card in fall of 1982, but a poor 1983 (171st on money list) forced him back to Q-school. . .Regained his tour card in 1984 and won the 1985 Tallahassee Open when it was part of the Tournament Players Series. . .Has finished in the top 100 of the money list since 1985. . . In 1987, lost the Tournament Players Championship in a three-hole playoff with Sandy Lyle, finished the year winning $335,590 (ranked 27th). . .In 1988, shot a final- round 65 to win the PGA Championship by three strokes over Paul Azinger, this carried him to his fourth best season to date, winning $503,321 (ranked 18th). . . Before his win in the 1998 Tucson Classic, Sluman had won more money than anybody else in the 90s, without a win...Has been a Chicago Bulls season ticket holder since 1996...Loves Formula One auto racing...Big fan of the Florida State Seminoles, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs...Serious wine collector, owns about 2,000 bottles, dating back to 1957...Co-owner with Dudley Hart of Lakeshore GC in Rochester, NY, a course he played regularly growing up...Good friend of 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal.
