Player Notes

Faxon had great success as an amateur and college player, winning the Rhode Island State Junior three times, the State Amateur twice, and the New England Amateur twice. At Furman University, he won 11 collegiate titles plus the Fred Haskins award and the NCAA Coaches award as the Player of the Year; he also played on the 1983 Walker Cup Team. He qualified for the PGA Tour in 1984 and won for the first time in 1986, at the Provident Classic. He topped the $200,000 mark for the first time in 1989, finishing second at both the Shearson Lehman Hutton Open and the Bank of Boston Classic. Since 1991 he has surpassed $300,000 every year. . .Member of the 1995 and '97 Ryder Cup Team. . .Won over $1 million in 1996 to become the first player on the PGA Tour to go over a million dollars without a victory. . .First in putting in 1996, '99 and 2001, second in 1993, 5th in 1995, 4th in 1997, T-18th in 1998. . . Missed three months in 1999 because of a broken left wrist which came in a fall off a ladder. Tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in November 2003 while exercising at home. Decided against surgery and chose to rehabilitate the knee.
