Hoch hurt his left shoulder in Dec., 1991 at the JC Penney Classic when he heard a pop on a swing. Doctors thought it was a muscular problem, but when workouts did not seem to help and he could not play early in 1992, the doctors revised their thinking and on further examinations found cartilage damage. The problem was more serious than expected, needing surgery in March of 1992. Hoch made his debut at the '92 BellSouth, where he finished T25th.
