Competed on the PGA Tour from 1980 to 1999, competing in 413 events, making 222 cuts, and had 23 top-10 finishes while earning $1,896,917 . . .Winner of 1989 rain-shortened Centel Classic, and runner-up in 1992 Northern Telecom Open, (T-2) Anheuser Busch Classic, 1989 Hardee's Golf Classic, 1982 (lost playoff to Hal Sutton) in Walt Disney/Oldsmobile Classic. . .Winner, 1979 Metropolitan Open, 1975, '76 Metropolitan Amateur Championships, 1975 National Junior College Championship. . .Began his golfing career when he used to sneak under the fence at a public course near his home in Staten Island, N.Y. . . From 1983 through 1987, Britton struggled and did not even play on Tour in 1986. He regained his card in 1987, but poor season forced him back to Q-school to regain his exempt status for 1988. Played better in 1988 and the confidence carried over into 1989 an he enjoyed his best year, capped off by a four-stroke victory in the Centel Classic... His strong play continued into 1990 and Britton gained national attention with his performances in The Masters and the PGA Championship. He tied for seventh place at Augusta and was fourth at Shoal Creek.
