Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, June 23, 2004… The 87th PGA Championship, which will be held August 8-14, 2005 on the famed Lower Course at Baltsurol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, today announced that it has formed a partnership with NJ TRANSIT, whereby NJ TRANSIT will serve as the "Preferred Transportation Partner" for the 87th PGA Championship. The partnership marks the first-time ever that the PGA Championship, one of golf's four major championships and the last leg of golf's Grand Slam, has designated a "Preferred Transportation Partner."
The 87th PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club will be returning to New Jersey for the first time in 63 years. Thus, in an effort to ensure that spectators from New Jersey and the entire New York-Metropolitan Area can gain easy access to this major golf event, the PGA Championship and NJ TRANSIT have formed this unique transportation partnership.
"NJ TRANSIT is among the most efficient transportation systems in the country," said Bob Jeffrey, Tournament Director, 87th PGA Championship. "In forming this partnership, we are making it very convenient for spectators to travel to Baltusrol Golf Club from many destinations, for what will surely be a once-in-a-lifetime golf experience in New Jersey."
"The PGA Championship will be one of the most prestigious major sporting events to ever come through New Jersey," said George D. Warrington, Executive Director, NJ TRANSIT. "We are proud to be the transportation partner for this event and we will go to great lengths to ensure a quick and comfortable commute to Baltusrol for tens of thousands of golf fans from throughout New Jersey, and the entire Tri-State area."
Highlighting the partnership between NJ TRANSIT and the PGA Championship will be the creation of a PGA Commemorative Rail Ticket that will be sold for $20.00 for the Championship rounds. This ticket will allow patrons round-trip transportation for each of the four rounds of the 87th PGA Championship, taking place from August 11-14, 2005. In addition, the partnership has also produced a $15.00 rail ticket that will allow patrons round-trip transportation for each of the Championship's three practice rounds, from August 8-10, 2005. All PGA Commemorative Rail Tickets and practice round rail tickets will be available beginning July 20, 2004, by calling 1-800-PGA-TCKT or via the 87th PGA Championship website, www.pga2005.com.
NJ TRANSIT'S Summit Rail Station, located just minutes from Baltusrol Golf Club, will serve as a transportation hub for the 87th PGA Championship, with shuttle buses bringing spectators to and from the golf course during the designated hours of the event. In addition, as part of its partnership with the PGA Championship, NJ TRANSIT will initiate a widespread promotional campaign for the 87th PGA Championship, including posters on rail cars, banners at rail stations and even messages on NJ TRANSIT'S Quik-Tik® monthly pass, among other initiatives.
The PGA Championship features more Top 100 World ranked players than any other golf Major. Highlighting this stellar field at the 87th PGA Championship in 2005 will be the world's number one golfer, Tiger Woods, who will be competing professionally for the first time ever in New Jersey, against the likes of Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Davis Love III and more.
Tickets for the 87th PGA Championship, taking place from August 8-14, 2005, will be available for purchase starting on July 20, 2004 including the option to purchase the PGA Commemorative Rail Ticket. The tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis to a limited number of spectators.
