PGA Championship field to include 93 of top 100 players

Once again, the PGA Championship will feature the strongest field in major championship golf, with 93 of the top 100 players in the current Official World Rankings committed to compete at Baltusrol Golf Club. Defending Champion Vijay Singh will be joined by 14 past Champions and 31 overall major winners in the PGA of America's premier event.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Defending Champion Vijay Singh, winner of four events this year and three career major championships, will be joined by 14 past Champions and 31 overall major winners in the 87th PGA Championship, Aug. 11-14, at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.

Overall, 93 of the top 100 players in the current Official World Rankings have committed to play in the season's final major.

Since 1991, the PGA Championship has featured the most top 100 world-ranked players among the year's four major championships.

Singh, who also captured the 1998 PGA Championship, is part of a 64-player delegation representing 21 countries -- both Championship international records. Australia leads with 15 entrants in a 156-player field that will be complete Aug. 7, following the conclusion of The International.

Rounding out the PGA Champions in the field are: Paul Azinger (1993), Rich Beem (2002), Mark Brooks (1996), John Daly (1991), Steve Elkington (1995), Wayne Grady (1990), Davis Love III (1997), Shaun Micheel (2003), Larry Nelson (1981, '87), Jeff Sluman (1988), Hal Sutton (1983), David Toms (2001), Bob Tway (1986) and Tiger Woods (1999, 2000).

The 87th PGA Championship, the first to visit historic Baltusrol Golf Club, is the second Championship to be contested in New Jersey. The legendary Sam Snead captured the 1942 PGA Championship at Seaview Country Club in Atlantic City.

CBS Sports and TNT will combine to present 27 hours of live coverage from Thurs., Aug. 11 through Sun., Aug. 14.

The PGA Championship is one of four premier golf events conducted by The PGA of America. Others include the Ryder Cup Matches, the Senior PGA Championship and the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which brings together the winners of golf's four major championships.

Since 1916, golf's best professionals have been competing for the PGA Championship's coveted Wanamaker Trophy. Past Champions span both the legendary and recent stars of the game: Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh.

The PGA of America, founded in 1916, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.
