Player Notes

Started playing golf at the age of four when, armed with a club, he would follow his dad around Bootle Golf Club. At the age of six he won his first tournament - an under 14s tournament at North Berwick and hasn't looked back. Prominent member of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team in August 2001. Turned professional the following week and although did not earn enough money to secure his playing privileges for 2002 in his seven starts, made up for that at the Qualifying School Finals where he took the third card. Completed a highly successful first season on The European Tour by finishing in 36th place on the Order of Merit, a performance that earned him the honor of being named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year for 2002. Further progress in 2003 hindered by glandular fever and after a moderate 2004, he made a spectacular start to 2005, finishing tied fourth at the South African Airways Open and claiming his breakthrough title in the Caltex Masters, presented by Carlsberg, Singapore 2005 the following week. Prot�g� of six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo, who recognized 'little Nick' as a special talent during the Faldo Junior Series and took him under his wing. Since then Faldo has coached him in every aspect of a professional golfer's life. Coached by David Leadbetter and helped on his fitness and mental approach by Jamil Quireshi. An accomplished flute player having reached Grade Six after taking it up at Primary School after his dad, a huge Beatles fan, traded in one of Paul McCartney's first guitars to buy a flute.
