CHICAGO, Ill. -- Golf enthusiasts who want to get involved "behind the scenes" at the 2006 PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club may obtain volunteer applications starting June 28, 2005, tournament officials have announced.
"Quality volunteers are the essential to any successful golf tournament and we are very excited about the prospect of welcoming volunteers who have golf tournament experience as well as those who would be volunteering for the first time," said Michael Belot, tournament director for the 2006 PGA Championship. "We're looking for people with varied backgrounds because golf tournament operations require a volunteer group with a diverse set of skills."
Belot said he anticipates keen interest in volunteer positions for the 2006 PGA because the tournament is a major championship and because it is being staged at Medinah, one of the world's great golf courses.
Among the 23 committees with positions available are Transportation,
Tech-Check and Merchandise Tent.
Those interested in volunteering may obtain a volunteer application form online at pga2006.com or by calling the local tournament office at 630-775-1PGA (1742). Sharon Helbig, Tournament Manager of Administration, is in charge of volunteer operations.
