Player Notes

Born of an English father and Portuguese mother, Ames is the first professional to play on both the European Tour, then the PGA Tour from Trinidad and Tobago. His grandmother was Trinidad and Tobago champion 20 different times. He went to Florida on a golf scholarship and in trying to get his PGA Tour card suffered a neck injury. Not being able to play on the PGA Tour he joined the Hogan Tour in 1990, 1991 and 1992. He not only won in 1991 he finished eight on the Hogan Tour money list. After the 1992 season he went over a played on the European Tour. Got on the PGA Tour when he finished third at the 1997 PGA Tour qualifying tournament. He lives in Calgary, Canada, with his Canadian wife, Jodi, a former flight attendant he met on a flight. Due to visa problems, he had problems playing in PGA Tour events in 1999.
