Player Notes

The quiet-spoken Welshman enjoyed a sensational 2005, notching his first and second European Tour victories, playing a part in Great Britain and Ireland's Seve Trophy success over Continental Europe at The Wynyard Club and winding up his campaign with a glorious victory alongside Bradley Dredge in the WGC-Algarve World Cup in Portugal. Finished tied 15th on his debut in the Volvo Masters in 2004 and used that performance as the springboard for his European Tour breakthrough in the following week's Volvo China Open, the first event of the 2005 season. Followed that with a second success in May when he won the Nissan Irish Open after a play-off with David Howell. The two victories, allied to four other top-10 finishes, helped him to a career-high 17th place on the Order of Merit. Was not a stranger to success in his amateur days either and he won the Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1989, the same season that Great Britain and Ireland pulled off a spectacular Walker Cup victory over the United States at Peachtree in Georgia. Started out by searching for golf balls as an 11 year old at Brynhill GC, Barry, in Wales, then graduated to full international honors for his country. A Nottingham Forest fan, he has a dislike of flying but regards the business as a ?necessary evil'. Coached by Terry Hanson, professional at Cardiff. One of the high spots of his amateur career was playing with Sandy Lyle and Curtis Strange in the 1990 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
