Southern Hills Country Club will become the first course to play host to four PGA Championships when it welcomes the 89th PGA Championship in 2007. The event will mark the seventh time the Tulsa, Okla., course has hosted a major championship.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA of America has announced that Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., the host of six previous major championships, has been selected the site of the 89th PGA Championship in August 2007.

Southern Hills will become the first course to host four PGA Championships, having conducted the Association's premier event in three previous decades -- 1970, 1982 and 1994. The club also was the site of three U.S. Open Championships -- 1958, 1977 and 2001.

Designed by Perry Maxwell in 1936, the par-71, 7,016-yard Southern Hills Country Club is No. 15 among Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses." The club also has hosted five significant national championships -- the 1946 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1953 U.S. Junior Amateur, 1961 U.S. Senior Amateur, 1965 U.S. Amateur and the 1987 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.

"Southern Hills Country Club has a rich history as one of our nation's most respected sites for major championship golf," said then-PGA of America President Jack Connelly. "Our previous three PGA Championships at Southern Hills have each produced some of the most memorable moments in golf. We look forward to returning the Championship to Southern Hills and to the greater Tulsa area -- a region of some of the greatest golf fans anywhere."

"Southern Hills Country Club is honored to have been selected as the site of the 2007 PGA Championship," said John B. Johnson Jr., then-President of Southern Hills Country Club. "In so doing, Southern Hills continues its long tradition of hosting major championship golf tournaments. We are proud to once again showcase our golf course, facilities and the City of Tulsa to golf fans everywhere."

The PGA Championship, inaugurated in 1916, has been conducted at 68 U.S. sites. The following sites will host future PGA Championships:

2006 Medinah (Ill.) Country Club
2007 Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa, Okla.
