KOHLER, Wis.-- It was an early start to this Saturday at Whistling Straits and our crack team of on-course correspondents were ready from the get-go, bringing you saturation coverage from the driving range and clubhouse all the way to the shores of Lake Michigan. When the world’s No. 1 player was hitting shots under the lights early in the morning until the final putt dropped on a long, long Saturday of golf, we had all points covered thanks to our dedicated group of reporters.
Here are some of the highlights from their reports from Day 3 of action:
When Tiger Woods showed up with a guest this morning, before the gates opened and the sun was up, our reporters were there.
Via Jim Richerson, PGA: “At 5:30am, Tiger Woods is out on range, under the lights, working on his swing with Sean Foley.”
RT @The_Real_Croge: "Didn't know it was possible to fit 78 people on a driving range....."
Via our pal David Charles, PGA Tournament Director: Sunrise over the 18th...going to be a great (and long!) day. (photo above)
Via Jim Richerson, PGA: "Bubba Watson is hitting it 350 on range! Man, gonna have to look into those pink shafts!"
Senior Director of PGA Championships, David Charles, joined in and set several updates (and photos) including:"hole 17 is hard enough, what if it were entirely made of sand? http://yfrog.com/mfh9tj""iPad's are being used to expedite Will Call processing and adds outlets for fulfillment.""Spectators arriving and looking forward to a great day of Major Championship golf."
Our tireless Jason Manke, PGA was an update machine from the moment play started. Some of his best include: "There's a guy in a motorized hang glider on the north side of the course that's creeping closer.""Apparently mosquito convention also happening here at Whistling Straits. if you're coming out, lather up""As a pro, I wear pants everyday. Today? Shorts. My out of bounds legs quickly turning into lateral hazard stakes."
And between rounds, he was the first to report:"Tiger Woods, on the range, "unofficially" working with Sean Foley."
PGA Professionals the world over took pride in the play of Rob Labritz, a PGA Club Professional who made the cut as evidenced by:
PGA/PGM Matt Frey: "My dark horse pick to win The PGA was a PGA Professional. Rob Labritz, PGA is at even par. Move over octopus, I can pick 'em too!"
And when the loudest roar of the day happened at hole No. 17, of course we had a reporter there:
"Put me down for a 1."
Tom Lehman, 50, playing this week after winning the Senior PGA Championship earlier this year, aces the 17th hole! reporter Lauren Brubaker, PGA/PGM, says the crowd is going CRAZY.
As always, fashion was a big point of the updates. Even from the players themselves.
@bubbawatson: "Wearing this for @rickiefowlerpga! A little orange for ya!!! http://twitpic.com/2embu6"
Via Lauren Brubaker, PGA/PGM: "I wanna know where I can get a hot pink titelist hat like rickey fowler!"
Via Jason Manke, PGA: "Ian Poulter's pants remind me of my college dorm couch."
And one fashion no-no that our reporter spotted was actually a health risk.
Via Jason Manke, PGA: "how long til these ladies regret their footwear choice?"
In all, our reporters sent over four dozen updates throughout the day, most populating our Twitter, Facebook and video feeds. Engagement and interaction was high, interest was overwhelmingly positive. And what will they bring for the conclusion of the Championship on Sunday? Not really sure, but confident it will be amazing.
