The son of a preacher from Sheffield enjoyed a promising first full year on The European Tour, carding eight top ten finishes including tied fourth at the Joburg Open in his third event of the season and the same position at the Celtic Manor Wales Open. Boasts a stunning amateur record having won the English Amateur Championship at Royal St George’s after being crowned Yorkshire Amateur Champion in 2007, before going on to play in the Walker Cup and become Number One Amateur in the World. Lifted the leading amateur trophy after finishing tied tenth in the Open de España at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in May 2008. That followed a tied 19th finish in the MAPFRE Open de Andalucía by Valle Romano at Aloha Golf Club. Earned his 2009 playing rights after cruising through all three stages of the Qualifying School, comfortably winning Stage One (Section A) at Fleesensee Golf and Country Club in Germany, progressing through Stage Two at Sherry Golf Jerez in Spain in ninth place and finishing fourth in the Final Stage at PGA Golf de Catalunya in Spain, where he had the experienced Malcolm Mason, who has caddied for Sam Torrance, on his bag. Currently coached by Graham Walker, who was named in Golf Monthly’s “Top 25 Coaches”. Cites Tiger Woods as his chief inspiration.
