Caught the golf bug at age 10, when he accumulated 72 Stableford points in a competition on his way to victory. The highlight of his amateur career, apart from victory in the 1990 European Young Masters, was playing in the 1992 Swedish Eisenhower Trophy team alongside Max Anglert and Ryder Cup golfer Niclas Fasth. Won twice on the European Challenge Tour, in 1993 and 2000, then gained his card for the first time in 2001 through the Qualifying School. Had to return to the School on four more occasions – securing his card in 2006 and 2009 – before removing that inconvenience by capturing his first Tour title, the BMW Italian Open in Turin in May 2010. Married Anna in 2004 and added his wife’s surname, Hed, to his own to emphasise his commitment to her.
