Dye reviews changes

While no revolutionary modifications will be made to The Ocean Course for the 94th PGA Championship, Dye's proposed changes are designed to improve gallery flow and allow spectators to move around the course more efficiently.

Legendary course designer Pete Dye toured The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort recently to review his proposed course changes for the 94th PGA Championship.

While no revolutionary modifications will be made to The Ocean Course, which Golf Digest rates as "America's Toughest Course" and the "No. 4 Public Golf Course" in the country, changes are designed to improve gallery flow and allow spectators to move around the course more efficiently. Among the planned enhancements to the course layout:

-- Hole No. 9: Back tee moved 20 feet to the right
-- Hole No. 14: New back tee to be created
-- Hole No. 18: New addition to the back tee

"It is our intent not to make any major changes to The Ocean Course," said Kerry Haigh, The PGA of America's Managing Director for Championships and Business Development. "The design has withstood the test of time. We just need to move some tees to improve the spectator experience."

"It's fun to see the course in such great shape," said Pete Dye, a 2008 inductee into World Golf Hall of Fame. "It's in perfect condition. We don't have to change much to get it ready for the 2012 PGA Championship."
