Sign Up Now to Volunteer at the 2017 PGA Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 20, 2016) – Following the overwhelming interest in tickets and hospitality opportunities for the 2017 PGA Championship, organizers today launched online registration for a limited number of volunteer spots at the highly anticipated event, to be held at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club Aug. 7-13, 2017.
“If you are a sports fan, participating as a volunteer at the PGA Championship is a great way to soak up the atmosphere and interact with people from all over the world who are attending one of the largest sports events of the year,” said 2017 PGA Championship Director Jason Mengel. “It’s also a very cost-effective way to attend the Championship, as volunteers will enjoy access to the grounds all week long – plus several other perks including a custom volunteer uniform, special discount in the Championship Shops, and food and water vouchers – all for less than two-thirds the cost of a regular weekly grounds pass.”
Volunteer positions are available to assist inside the PGA of America’s Championship Shops, a 36,000-square-foot air-conditioned merchandise venue that will offer branded apparel, gifts and other items while serving as a key gathering spot for visitors to the Queen City’s first-ever major golf championship. Each volunteer will be asked to work three to four four-hour shifts leading up to and during the week of the event, allowing them to enjoy the rest of the championship in their free time.
Registration is now available at www.pgachampionship.com on a first-come, first-served basis. To be eligible, volunteers must be 22 years of age or older and pay a $193 fee that helps offset the cost of the volunteer package, which includes:
♣ Volunteer uniform (Ralph Lauren golf shirt, outerwear piece and headwear item)
♣ Food and water vouchers to use at any on-course concession stand
♣ A copy of the official 2017 PGA Championship Program
♣ Complimentary parking
♣ A one-time discount at the Championship Shops
Volunteers will need access to the Championship grounds to fulfill their obligations, so each successful applicant will also receive a volunteer credential good for all seven days of the event.
A limited number of junior volunteer opportunities (ages 16-21) are available and can also be accessed by visiting www.pgachampionship.com. Junior volunteers will be required to work three shifts during the week of the Championship, and to help grow the game of golf there is no charge for participation. Positions available to junior volunteers include working various scoreboards and serving as standard bearers that walk with each group of players to display their scores.
Mengel urged those interested in volunteering to register quickly, pointing to the fact that hospitality opportunities and ticket registrations have far exceeded expectations for the 2017 Championship.
“Across the board, we’re seeing unprecedented interest in being part of this event,” said Mengel. “We’ll need more than 3,400 volunteers during the week of the Championship to pull off this extraordinary event, but most of those positions have already been filled by the tremendous volunteers who either support the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow each year or have supported previous PGA Championships across the country. We’re excited to get even more people involved for the 2017 PGA Championship and encourage those interested to sign up quickly before all the spots are filled.”
