Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club is a high-end, 36-hole private club located in the far southern suburbs of Los Angeles, in the city of Coto de Caza. With its Southern California locale, the facility has a 365-day golf season, but the busiest period is still during the spring, summer and fall.
Get Golf Ready
Get Golf Ready is the central program offered at Coto de Caza for new players entering the game. Classes are offered in several time slots, so that their customers can find a Get Golf Ready class to work within their schedule. In total, Lawrence Gilbert, PGA offers 50 Get Golf Ready classes, each of which consists of four, 1½-hour lessons.
To retain new players after their first series of lessons, Lawrence offers follow-up Get Golf Ready classes, for next-step instruction. Of the 50 Get Golf Ready classes offered, 38 are exclusive to women.
The second level of Get Golf Ready classes is aimed at providing game-improvement instruction to students with specific goals. In the third level of Get Golf Ready, Lawrence builds upon the training from previous levels, by bringing his students to the golf course for all four sessions, in order to further enhance their playing ability and enjoyment of the game.
“It’s OK” League
Coto de Caza’s “It’s OK” League is for new players who want to experience league play, while enjoying the social aspects of the game, without intimidation. It’s a relaxed atmosphere with no rules:
Go ahead and throw the ball out of the bunker – “It’s OK!”
Feel like teeing the ball in the middle of the fairway – “It’s OK!”
Anything that makes it fun to be on the course – “It’s OK!”
The 9-Hole League at the facility is for new players who want to advance their league play but who are not quite ready for an 18-Hole League. It provides a relaxed and unintimidating environment for the newer player with a more structured environment than the “It’s OK” League. The 9-Hole League player seeks a fun time, where they can enjoy the camaraderie of their playing partners, while also improving their game.
Every Wednesday, a complimentary clinic is offered at Coto de Caza for Members that’s designed to feed new students into other player development programs that the facility offers. This clinic is often the first touch point for a new golfer. Following the Wednesday clinic, the student would then enter the first level of Get Golf Ready and eventually participate in either the “It’s OK” League or the 9-Hole League.
