People often say that golf is hard. They’re wrong.

Admittedly, the game is very challenging to play at a high-level, as seen on the professional PGA & LPGA Tour’s. However, the playing ability of the average golfer is much more attainable. It’s a long way from professional golf, isn’t entirely focused on skill level and can still be just as enjoyable.

An enjoyable golf experience starts with the basics: familiarize yourself with the physical layout of your local golf club, learn the best food and beverage menu items, and find the practice area. Most importantly, get acquainted with the friendly faces of other golfers and befriend the staff as you would any other local business.

Once you know the basics, it’s time to really grow your comfort level on the golf course. Use your newrelationships and local knowledge to answer the less obvious questions: where to drive and park the cart, how to decide where to tee off from, and what to do when it’s not your turn. It can be a rewarding journey, but one that doesn’t start unless you have the courage to step out of your comfort zone and give it a try.

If you do, you are already well on your way to playing golf. Becoming a golfer is much easier than you’ve been led to believe.
