The San Francisco Giants only played one game Friday, but several of the LPGA Tour's biggest stars took part in a doubleheader.
The golf-baseball double-dip saw players including San Francisco-area resident Juli Inkster, Mountan View native Paula Creamer, San Jose native Christina Kim, Stanford grad Michelle Wie and Florida's own Brittany Lincicome commute over to AT&T Park from nearby Daly City, where they are playing the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic this week, to take part in "Golf Night ."
While the Giants took on the Cleveland Indians, the golfers – decked out in bright orange Giants jerseys – conducted a pre-game chat, gave away tickets to the golf tournament and took over the Giants' social media channels for a while. And before the game, Creamer and Wie participated in the ceremonial "first chip."
There was a variety of other golf-related activities throughout the evening, and some proceeds from ticket sales will be devoted to charitable efforts within the Bay Area golf community. Even better, fans who bought special "Golf Night" ticket packages received free headcovers featuring a likeness of Giants mascot Lou Seal.
