I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (majoring in physical education and minoring in business administration) from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM in 1980. I played on the university golf team through a full athletic scholarship. While on the team, I won several local and regional titles and attended the NAIA national golf championships twice in my four-year career. I geared my entire college curriculum toward a profession in the golf business. Both of my parents were educators so a pursuit of a teaching degree seemed logical, with one twist, I would be teaching golf (away from the structured environment of the public school classroom). My secondary interest in business seemed to be the perfect fit for a golf professional. Immediately upon graduation from college, I entered the golf business as an assistant professional. My first assistant's job was at Lawton Country Club in Lawton, Oklahoma. My boss was also the golf coach of Cameron University, whom I had competed against my entire college career. He gave me my first opportunity in professional golf, for which I will always be grateful. After two long summers in the Oklahoma heat and humidity, my wife Lori and I were ready to get back to the Rocky Mountains. We moved in late December of 1981 to Pueblo, Colorado. I began my next assistant's job at Pueblo Country Club on January 1st, 1982. My boss was Pat Rea, who enjoyed a forty-year tenure at Pueblo Country Club. I began my PGA apprenticeship that year and was elected to PGA membership in 1985. My duties and responsibilities grew at Pueblo to the point that I was promoted to head professional in 1987. Upon Rea's retirement in 1997, I was rewarded with a new contract and ownership of Pueblo Country Club Golf Shop. Since taking over the helm as the club's fourth head professional since 1903, I have been honored by the club on two separate occasions to serve as interim general manager. PCC has truly become home to me.
