Made more money in his first two years on the Champions Tour than in his 20 years on the PGA Tour... Had not played on the PGA Tour since 1987, but easily captured Senior Tour Rookie-of-the-Year honors with a remarkable 1991... Had been a color analyst for ESPN until the end of 1990 when he gave it up to devote more time to the Champions Tour... Owns and manages several golf facilities in California, New Mexico and Nevada... After starting off slowly in March '91, he finished the year winning three tournaments, and finished second five times, averaging $40,000-per-start in 22 starts. He also matched the Senior Tour record low round with his 9-under-par 61 during the second round at the 1991 First Development Kaanapali Classic. Despite missing four months of the season while recuperating from prostate cancer surgery on June 23rd of 1997, still finished among the top-31 of the money-winners. Has now accomplished that feat 12 years in a row. |
