Started playing golf at age 13 in the junior programs at his family's club in Waco, Texas. He reached the semifinals of the 1964 U.S. Amateur and was a member of the 1965 Walker Cup Team. He won his Tour card in 1967 and worked his way to a $108,312 season in 1971 that was highlighted with a win in the Greater Milwaukee Open. To prove that his victory wasn't a fluke, he won the Greater Milwaukee Open again in 1977. He found the victory circle again in 1980, winning the Bay Hill Classic. His last victory was in 1981 Tallahassee Open and it came in a playoff with Bob Murphy and Mark O'Meara. Since then, Eichelberger struggled on the PGA tour, not cracking the top 100 money list... |
