Graham has won eight tournaments on the PGA Tour, plus another 23 others, in 9 different countries. He got his start in the game as a 14-year old when he found some left-handed clubs in his garage in Windsor, Australia. He played with them for two years, before making the switch to right-handed clubs. As a 16-year old, he worked in a golf shop in Melbourne and took a head job at a nine-hole course in Tasmania. . .In 1970, Graham came to America to try and get his card in Q-school. He failed, but the next week he and Bruce Devlin won the World Cup for Australia, as Graham placed second individually. In 1971, Graham won the Caracas Open and the Japan Air Lines tournament and succeeded in getting his playing card. In his rookie year of 1972, a decade after turning pro, Graham won the Cleveland Open, beating his fellow Aussie, Bruce Devlin in a playoff. In 1976 he won the Westchester Classic and American Golf Classic. He finished 8th on the money list with $176,174. Starting in 1979 he won the PGA Championship, the 1980 Memorial, the 1981 Phoenix Open and capped it off with the U.S. Open. He beat Bill Rogers and George Burns by one at Merion Golf Club, and hit all 18 greens in regulation during the final round. |
