After caddying for his mother as a youth, John decided playing would be more fun. After turning professional, Morgan spent three years as assistant at Moor Park in England, but he was more interested in tournaments. After leading the early rounds of the British Open in 1974, Morgan decided to play tournament golf instead of working in a shop. He played on both the Safari Circuit and the European tour, winning on both tours. After retiring from both tours in 1991 with total earnings of £282,695, he set up a golf course design company with his son Robert. Upon turning 50, Morgan went "back on tour" this time the PGA Seniors European tour where he has three tour wins and total earnings of £59,944. Played for four years on the U.S. Senior Tour between 1997 and 2000, winning over $1.4 million making him the most prolific money earner on the European Seniors Tour. |
