The Scot won for the first time when he closed with a 65 to claim the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open at Royal St David's. One month later he repeated the feat after carding a final round of 67 to pip Carl Mason and Denis O'Sullivan in the De Vere PGA Seniors Championship at De Vere Carden Park. A regular on The European Tour for 16 years between 1976 and 1992 without winning a European Tour title but he did come close on several occasions. The Scot first hit the headlines in 1978 when he finished tied third at the Belgian Open but it was in 1982 he enjoyed his best season by finishing runner-up in both the Lufthansa German Open and the Ebel Swiss Open.
