It gives me great pleasure to join honorary chairperson arnold palmer in welcoming The PGA of America, the entire field of competitors, national and international media, all spectators and supporters to Laurel Valley Golf Club and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the 66th Senior PGA Championship.
This marks the second time in three years that our commonwealth has hosted the Senior PGA Championship. The 64th Senior PGA Championship was contested at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square in 2003 and it is an honor to again host the world’s elite senior players. In addition, Laurel Valley Golf Club previously hosted two major Championships conducted by The PGA of America, the 1965 PGA Championship and 1975 Ryder Cup.
The 66th Senior PGA Championship allows us to showcase our commonwealth as an extraordinary place to visit, live and conduct business to the many spectators who have traveled to Pennsylvania to enjoy the Championship as well as the millions around the world who will watch the live television coverage. As this year’s competitors vie for the coveted Alfred S. Bourne Trophy, it is my hope that everyone gathered to enjoy the Championship will find their stay in Pennsylvania to be memorable. I encourage all of you to explore all that our commonwealth has to offer, from our lush and challenging golf courses to the vibrant culture of our cities.
On behalf of all Pennsylvanians, I welcome you to an exciting week of golf. Best wishes for a successful and memorable major Championship.

Welcome to The 66th Senior PGA Championship
On behalf of the pga of america and its 28,000 members and apprentices, welcome to the 66th Senior PGA Championship. We are especially pleased to be staging this event at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Western Pennsylvania, a region that gave the game of golf one of its greatest playing legends, Arnold Palmer. I’d like to thank Mr. Palmer for serving as Honorary Chairperson for this Championship, the most historic and prestigious event in senior golf. Over the years, golf fans worldwide have thrilled to his tremendous combination of talent, class and competitiveness, traits that allowed him to become a multiple major champion, including twice the Senior PGA Champion, in 1980 and again in 1984. This week marks his 24th appearance in this Championship, and we are honored by his presence as well as his involvement in hosting this event.
I’d also like to thank the members of Laurel Valley Golf Club, as well as the more than 1,500 volunteers who have generously worked so hard to make the 66th Senior PGA Championship a first-class event. Your support and efforts have been invaluable in bringing this Championship to Western Pennsylvania. In addition, I must take this opportunity to acknowledge our broadcast partners, NBC and ESPN, as well as the hundreds of media members on hand to cover the Championship. We appreciate the work that you do in bringing the events of this Championship to golf fans worldwide, which as a result help to grow the popularity and participation in the game of golf.
Finally, I’d like to thank the great players who have assembled here to compete for the Alfred S. Bourne Trophy. Including Mr. Palmer and defending Champion Hale Irwin, 11 major champions are in the field this week, as well as dozens more whose skill and professionalism have taken them to the top echelon of senior golf. You are tremendous ambassadors to the game, and it will be our honor to watch you compete this week.
