Ranked as one of the top amateurs in the world from 1979 to 1983. Played on three Walker Cup Teams. Won the first U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in 1981. Also runner-up in the 1983 British Amateur. Played in three Masters, making the cut three times, with his top finish a T41st in 1982. Played in the U.S. Open in 1978 and finished T57th.
