Has won eight Seniors titles, the most recent being the 2005 AIB Irish Seniors Open in association with Greenstar & F?ilte Ireland, and has finished in the top 20 on the Order of Merit for nine of the past ten years. The two stroke victory over Argentine Luis Carbonetti at Seve Ballesteros's dramatic new course at the Heritage at Killenard was the Australian's second success in the Championship and his sixth finish inside the top three. Concluded another successful season by capturing the Hardys Wines Super Senior Prize for the leading player aged 60 and over. The previous year, he became only the second golfer in the history of the European Seniors Tour to surpass €1 million in career earnings. During his days on The European Tour, Ratcliffe won twice, in the 1978 Belgian Open and the 1987 Benson and Hedges International Open and he also captured three titles Down Under. Started playing golf with the help of two older brothers but did not get his first set of clubs until he was 21. Enjoys all sports and competed in cricket, rugby and athletics before turning his attention to golf. Attended college and studied for a pharmacy degree for three years and, prior to turning professional, held jobs in public service and the insurance industry. Enjoyed a distinguished amateur career as a member of the 1972 Eisenhower Trophy team which finished second to the U.S. in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Winner, 1974 Australian Assistant Professional Championship, 1976 Huon Open (New Guinea), 1977 South Australian Open. Finished 11th on the Order of Merit in 1978, winning the Belgian Open. Lost to Lee Trevino in a playoff in the 1986 Benson & Hedges International Open and came back to win the same event in 1987 after an eagle on the last hole. Career interrupted (1992-95) by back problems, and injuries to a knee and ribs as a result of water skiing accidents. Had nine top-10 performances in 1997 on PGA European Seniors Tour, winning the Manadens Affarer Seniors Open and Senior German Open. . . Has career earnings of £2589,681.
