Player Notes

Started playing golf at the age of 12, was taught fundamentals by his father and had further instruction from older brother David.�.�.�Won 1974 PAC-8 conference championship at Oregon where he was three-time All-American.�.�.�Had a ruptured disc in his back in 1987, which required back surgery and had been suffering from severe sinus trouble. In 1992 he lost his exempt status and was thinking of cutting back his golf schedule to become a television commentator. He joined ABC Sports announcing team in 1993, but as he spent more time in the booth he knew that his true love was playing on the PGA Tour. In 1994 he quit ABC and devoted his time to playing the PGA Tour full time, but was hampered when he started the year hurt when he cut two fingers on his right hand while playing with his children. The injury required surgery and he didn�t start playing again until the Phoenix Open. Later in the year at the Memorial he pulled rib muscles and took five weeks off.�.�.�His decision to play full time paid off in 1995 when he won the AT&T and then the Buick Invitational the following week. Jacobsen is a favorite at pro-ams and clinics with his impersonates of famous players and with his musical group, �Jake Trout and the Flounders. Has is own television production company and runs the annual Fred Meyer Challenge. A member of the 1985 and �95 Ryder Cup Team, he was also Player Director on the PGA Tour policy board between 1983-85 and again between 1990-92.

Watched his season come to a halt in late July when subsequent left hip problems forced him to the sidelines after the Senior British Open. Eventually had left hip-replacement surgery September 9 in Naples, FL, and did not return to competition despite earning a spot in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship for the third consecutive year. In 2007 withdrew from The ACE Group Classic prior to the start of the second round and subsequently underwent micro-surgery on his lower back at the Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, FL in early March.�.�.�Came back just over a week later to claim a Top-10 finish at the Toshiba Classic in California.
