Produced his best performances in the bigger events of 2006 but was unable to add to his two previous titles. Finished runner-up at both the Wentworth Senior Masters and the European Senior Masters and featured in the Top-10 a further four times, en route to a career high of seventh place on the Order of Merit. Came closest to winning in 2005 at the Tobago Plantations Seniors Classic when he finished second to his younger brother Luis, who is in the Senior PGA Championship field. . . Won the 2002 European Seniors Tour Qualifying School and wasted little time in recording his first victory, capturing the 2003 Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open on his tenth start. Retained the title in 2004 when he finished eagle-birdie-birdie to draw level with England’s Denis Durnian, whom he defeated on the first extra hole. Created headlines when he recorded a then course record 7-under-par 64 during the second round of the 1980 Open Championship at Muirfield.
