Jacobs helps lead team to Pro-Am win at Oak Hill
Jacobs, the 2003 Senior PGA Champion, and his four amateur partners, carded their 11th birdie on their final hole for a 13-under-par 57 total. Their bogey-free round also included an eagle on the par-4 14th hole. The amateurs with Jacobs were Scott Seymour, J. Lowell Rolquin, Kevin Carter and Todd Lindenmuth.
Jacobs was one of nine Senior PGA Champions who competed in the Pro-Am, with proceeds from the event supporting the PGA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The PGA of America. The PGA Foundation helps promote interest and participation in the game by making the game more accessible to all segments of the population.
A total of 28 teams took their shot at Oak Hill's famed East Course, where the 69th Senior PGA Championship begins on Thursday. Defending Champion Denis Watson, D.A. Weibring and Joe Ozaki paced their respective teams to a share of second place with scores of 59. Ozaki played with Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim.
Jerry Pate, the 1976 U.S. Open champion, captained his team to a 60. The team led by four-time Senior PGA Champion Hale Irwin finished sixth at 9-under-par 61.
Four teams featuring Senior PGA Champions -- Allen Doyle (1999 Champion), Tom Watson (2001), Fuzzy Zoeller (2002) and Mike Reid (2005) -- matched the 62 tallied by two-time Masters Champion Bernhard Langer and his partners. Rochester native Jeff Sluman, the 1988 PGA Champion, headed five teams that finished at 63.
