Par 5
This is the first par 5 the players will encounter. If conditions are right, some of the longer hitters will be able to get home in two, even though it is a blind shot. The optimal landing area to attempt to go for the green in two is the right center of the fairway. The most likely hole position will be on the top tier of this two-tiered green. If so, this will lead to more birdies. In the 1979 U.S. Amateur, Bobby Clampett made birdie on this hole, in helping him to shoot 66 in the qualifying round and to set the competitive course record. Also, in the 1973 PGA Championship, Tom Watson was the only player in the field to hit the green in two.
