Conditionally-exempt for 2009 after 12th-place finish at 2008 National Qualifying Tournament. After finishing T29 at the 2007 Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament made 11 starts in 2008 and was 71st on the money list, with $183,747. Best effort was a career-best T5 at The Principal Charity Classic in Iowa, two years after posting a T6 finish there. Made 11 starts on the 2007 Champions Tour. Was T21 at the 2007 Bank of America Championship after being T2 after 36 holes and also T21 at the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Had 12 starts in 2006 with his T6 at the Allianz Championship in his second career start. One of the top club professionals in the New England area and was a three-time New England PGA Championship winner. Also won the 2008 Senior PGA Professional National Championship, defeating John Aubrey and Jon Fiedler by four strokes in Palm Springs, CA. Will be conditionally exempt in 2010 after finishing sixth at the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament in Scottsdale, AZ. Originally one of three players to T5 and final fully-exempt spot, but Jim Roy's birdie on the first extra hole secured him the final exempt position and Hanefeld took sixth with a par. Played in eight events in 2009, with best finish a T25 at the Senior British Open. Prior to 2010, had made 42 starts in his Champions Tour career with a pair of top-10 finishes. Was T5 at 2008 The Principal Charity Classic and T6 at the 2006 Allianz Championship.
