Claimed the 2011 Senior Tour Rookie of the Year award after a strong end to the season. Moved past former Masters Tournament Champion Ian Woosnam into fourth position on the Order of Merit following sixth place in the season-ending MCB Tour Championship – his ninth top ten finish of the campaign. After a hugely successful and long running amateur career, he turned professional in 2008 at the age of 47 with a view to joining the Senior Tour. Failed to gain his European Tour card at Qualifying School but he quickly made an immediate impact after joining the Senior Tour in 2010, finishing third in the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters on his debut before winning the lucrative Casa Serena Open on just his second appearance. Played in six Walker Cups in his amateur career and is the all-time leading points scorer for Great Britain and Ireland, famously defeating Tiger Woods in 1995. Won the Amateur Championship in 1991 and 2003.
