Finished runner-up three times in 2009, including in the OKI Castéllon Senior Tour Championship to end the season in fifth position in the Order of Merit. That followed a fine rookie season in 2008 when the big hitting South American was also runner-up in the Jersey Seniors Classic and the Russian Seniors Open after winning his card through Qualifying School. Captain of Paraguay's Alfred Dunhill and World Cup teams in 1991 and 1993. Led the Tour de Las Americas’ Order of Merit for four consecutive years, from 1989-92. Won the Paraguay Open on six occasions, as well as 20 other tournaments on the South American Tour. Won six National Opens (Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay), as well as 24 other events on the South American Tour. Was renowned as being a giant killer in the Alfred Dunhill Cup, being the only man to beat John Daly over the Old Course in 1993, and Ernie Els in 1994. His brother Carlos plays on the US PGA Tour.
