South Carolina Hidden Gems Hole 3 - Ocean Creek Golf Course, Hole 6

The Ocean Creek Golf Course on Fripp Island does not have too many Hidden Gems. The quality and beauty of all of our golf holes has been well documented by numerous media and golf industry observers who appreciate this amazing Davis Love design.

However, one hole does stand out in that those who play here regularly consistently point out to us that it is one of the most anticipated and enjoyable holes on the course. The sixth hole can play anywhere from 86 yards from our most forward tees to 185 yards from the tips. And regardless of which set of our five tee boxes you choose, you're going to get all the challenge you want on this beauty.

First of all, as you step on the tee box, you can actually feel the salt marsh breeze as the wind blows over the high marsh grasses as far as your eyes can see. Enjoy that breeze while you can because this same wind works against you as you hit your shot.

Though the green here is large, there isn't much room to miss it. You'll have to carry a marsh to reach it as well as avoid the right side where the marsh still comes into play. Of course, you can't just bail out left because there are lateral hazards and out of bounds on that side.

One hint for you when do play the hole - the tee box and green are at the same elevation. The tendency here is to underclub since many par threes offer elevated teeing areas, so be sure to take enough club. We fish out enough golf balls from the marsh to know that more people should heed this advice.

But most of all, when you play hole no. 6, take a moment and enjoy the surroundings. If you happen to play this hole in the late afternoon, you will probably see one of the most incredible sunsets, over the marsh, that you'll ever witness.

And that's what we aim to do here at Fripp Island Resort. With 16 or our 18 holes on a marsh, pond or creek, with the elements and design combining to offer you a unique challenge but a keen sense of playing a traditional-style course, with abundant wildlife including deer, egrets, herons and yes, the occasional alligator and a level of service you should expect from an elite world-class resort; we promise that this "Hidden Gem" will be one of those treasures you'll be able to take away regardless of the score on your card.

We hope you come visit us and find out for yourself!
