South Carolina Tourism - Hole 04
Hole 4, Dream 18
No., 11 - Cobblestone Park Golf Club
– Tom Graber, General Manager/Director of Golf
Cobblestone Park members and staff are excited and honored to have the 11th hole selected as part of the “Dream 18” of South Carolina Golf! The entire course has a reputation in the Midlands of South Carolina as one of the best and most challenging courses around. The topography is quite different than other courses in the region, with distinctive elevation changes and vistas of the beautiful South Carolina hills and pines.
The 11th hole is a short par three measuring 140 yards from the Member’s Tee and just 162 yards from the Championship Tee, but don’t let the yardage lull you to sleep. The green is surrounded on three sides by water and is truly intimidating to the eye - as the golfer must contemplate club selection, wind direction, a drop in elevation, hole location, and of course, a solidly struck shot!
The green is a sizeable 8,500 square feet, but that’s not as comforting as it may seem. The right third of the green is severely sloped, forcing the bulk of the pin placements to the center and water guarded left side. And the depth of the green can mean up to a three club difference depending on the where the pin is cut. For most golfers, a shot on any portion of the green is followed by a huge sigh of relief. For those trying to hit it close, it’s going to take perfect judgment and perfect execution.
As the home course to the University of South Carolina Gamecock men’s and ladies golf teams, Cobblestone Park Golf Club provides many different types of challenges to even the most seasoned golfer. It is however, a course that golfers of all levels can enjoy with tees representing different yardages for juniors, seniors, and ladies as well as the long hitting skilled players.
We invite you to see for yourself the natural beauty of Cobblestone Park Golf Club and just a note about the short 11th hole….it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra ball in your back pocket as you step onto the tee!
