South Carolina Tourism - Hole 06
Hole 6, Dream 18
No. 12 - 189 yards, Par 3 at Tidewater Golf Club
Myrtle Beach, S.C.
– Brendan Hood, PGA Professional
When you step on the 12th tee box here at Tidewater, I’d suggest you take a moment; close your eyes and enjoy the refreshing ocean breeze. Take a glance at the fisherman gathered in Cherry Grove inlet, smile as they are smiling at the day’s big catch. Marvel at the grandeur of the cranes and other wildlife as they go about enjoying their lunchtime snacks. Feeling at peace yet? Good, because now you have to tackle hole no. 12, one of the most spectacular holes offered anywhere.
Our signature hole combines the best of the idyllic setting of North Myrtle Beach and the anticipation and fear of one of the most challenging holes in the state. So yes, we are honored and excited, but not too surprised, to see our course join this most impressive list of The Dream 18 of South Carolina.
If you look at this hole on our scorecard, it looks fairly benign. From the tips, it plays 189 yards and is often a good deal shorter than that depending on the tees you are playing. It’s a straight forward par three, no blind shots, no doglegs, no tricks are gimmicks anywhere. According to the scorecard, it’s the 14th handicap hole on the course. Piece of cake, right?
Well, that is until you consider that the shot is all carry, over an unforgiving marshland that allows no chance of finding a golf ball that comes up short, much less any kind of recovery shot. And there are bunkers on both the left and right (and one in front too). So you can miss long – into a collection area behind the green, though the slope of the green then works against you and you’ll be pitching/chipping back down towards the marsh and front bunker. So other than not being able to miss left, right, short or long, it’s not that hard a hole.
But it’s more than the challenge that makes this hole, and our course, so special. We are nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Cherry Grove inlet, an ideal piece of land that has helped make Tidewater one of golf’s truly pristine gems. Every hole offers a different and majestic view. Every hole requires precision and skill, but offers plenty of options on how to best negotiate that particular test. And every day, we work hard to find new and innovative ways to make the Tidewater experience a better one for our guests.
As a region, the Myrtle Beach area prides itself in being one of the great golf destinations of the world. And within this elite grouping, we do stand out as unique and impressive. But all the accolades and recognitions aside, our biggest reward is knowing that our guests feel their time with us is valuable, enjoyable and worth their time and money. Come visit us and we think you’ll agree.
