South Carolina Tourism - Hole 07
Hole 7, Dream 18
No. 6 - 190 yards, Par 3 at Oyster Reef Golf Club
Hilton Head Island, S.C.
– Tom Kern, PGA General Manager, Oyster Reef Golf Club
Oyster Reef Golf Club and the Heritage Golf Group are proud to be honored with the selection of our Signature hole for PGA.com’s "Dream 18 of South Carolina."
Carved out of 190 acres of breathtaking low country terrain, golf course architect Rees Jones used the natural landscape of winding lagoons, lush vegetation, and scenic views of the Island to create an inspiring course in Oyster Reef Golf Club. When built in 1982, Oyster Reef was named one of the top 25 courses in the United States. More recently, the Club has been named as one of the "Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest and received 4 stars on the Golf Digest list of the “Best Places to Play” for 2008-2009.
Our signature hole, the par 3, #6, is one of the most recognized and photographed golf holes on Hilton Head Island, providing a breathtaking view of the Port Royal Sound and featuring Parris Island as a backdrop behind the green.
While it’s not the longest par 3 you will ever play, it is nevertheless a challenging 190 yards from the tips. Selecting enough club is a must on this par 3. The green is very shallow, and slopes away on the right side. You’ll also need to avoid the mammoth bunker that guards the front of the green. Landing past the green is no bargain either, as you run the chance of ending up in the Port Royal Sound.
Par is a great score on this hole; however, even if you walk away with something higher, the view from the green is enough to make you smile, knowing that there is no prettier place to be.
In addition to our signature hole, Oyster Reef Golf Club’s 18-hole championship course offers 66 bunkers, which are well placed off the elevated tees and guard the undulating two and three-tiered greens. Numerous dogleg fairways, accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. The greens vary in size and their well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
We would like to invite you to experience Oyster Reef Golf Club and this magnificent signature hole first hand, as well as many other notable holes of The Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island, including Shipyard Golf Club, Palmetto Hall Plantation Club and Port Royal Golf Club.
