South Carolina Tourism - Hole 14
Hole 14, Dream 18
No., 3 at Hickory Knob
– Tommy Rankin, Head Professional
I see the holes thus far on The Dream 18 of South Carolina and I know what a tremendous list this is. How does Hickory Knob, a state park golf course, get on the same list as Kiawah, Wild Dunes and Oyster Reef?
Let me tell you how. We offer some of the best golf in the state, and our signature hole, our 3rd hole, is one of the prettiest, most challenging and most interesting golf holes you'll find anywhere.
It’s not the most intimidating hole when you first arrive on the tee. It seems to be a pretty and straight forward par 3, one good swing and putt away from a great start early in your round. From the tips, it plays 177 yards. From the white tees, it’s 156 yards. Doesn’t seem too tough, does it?
But then you start to wonder. That green doesn’t look that big. And that's a lot of sand around that entire green. And if I miss long, Lake Thurmond is going to swallow my golf ball. The elevated tee box and the ever-present breeze makes you think a nd rethink your club selection. The hole, which seemed like a simple and inviting target a moment ago when you pulled up now seems full of potential pitfalls. Is it a beauty or is it a beast?
In truth, both visions are correct. You'll love it for its views, you'll love it for its challenge. I think you'll agree. We invite you to come experience one of the best golf holes in the state, and Hickory Knob, one of the best golf values you'll find anywhere, and find out for yourself. See you soon!
