Tiger Woods is playing the first FedExCup playoff event with hopes that it’s not his last.

Woods on Thursday officially entered The Barclays, which starts Aug. 26. It’s the first of four playoff events that conclude with the Tour Championship and a $10 million prize to the winner of the yearlong FedExCup competition.

Woods is No. 108 in the standings, and he is likely to go further down the list depending on what happens this week at the Wyndham Championship. Only the top 125 players are eligible for The Barclays, which will be played at Ridgewood Country Club.

Woods did not play Ridgewood the last time the tournament was held there in 2008. He missed the FedExCup playoffs that year while recovering from knee surgery, the only time he did not claim the $10 million prize since the series began in 2007.

Now, the goal is simply to get to as many playoff events as he can.

After The Barclays, only the top 100 are eligible for the second round, the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston, which ends on Labor Day. That will be the final event before U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin announces his four wild-card picks.

Woods has said he wants to play, and Pavin said that Woods is “high on my list.”

Players are grouped at The Barclays based on their FedExCup standings, and Pavin is currently at No. 107. However, he said last week he is unlikely to play Ridgewood because of a summer schedule of four majors (three on the Champions Tour) in a five-week stretch.

I can't believe the crap I'm reading, He cheated on his wife guys, that doesn't mean he's not a great golfer. i'm sick of all the comparison betwen him and Jack. Golf is such a different game now and the talent is so much better. Everybody can go low now. He's won 14 majors. Lets not forget that. I'm pretty much bias on all standerds but I will not dismiss the talent he is capable of. For you old farts that are still living in the past, Jack was great, no doubt about it. He still holds the major record and may always hold the major record but Tiger will give him a run thats for sure. We all seem to forget all the years before this year where his B game was hard to catch. Many tour pro's in interviews ammited this stating that if Tiger shows up they are playing for second place. Lets not forget. I don't think I would play well either if I was about to lose half my fortune in my divorce as well guys. Let's let this play out and this time next year it'll be more of the same and less of the grumpy age coming out of the wood work. I think you guys should have an ensure, turn on Wheel of Fortune and relax a bit guys.

Walt Carpenter, what is your problem? Do you really believe all the media trash that's been out there? Sure he messed up royally. But that's not any one's business, except Elin's. So he got a divorce. People like Carpenter used to wear white sheets and burn crosses on people's lawns. Tiger has done more for the game of golf than any other player, period.

The world rankings is the biggest sham in golf. Purely a marketing tool to keep fans interested. Tiger is not even in the top ten worldwide. He might be No.1 golfer for drawing fans but please stop degrading other much better players by using the world golf rankings. As far as Tiger v Jack. No comparison. If all you have to do in your life is play golf you should be the best. Jack had 5 kids by the time Tiger had one. And lets face it, Tiger would not have won nearly as many tournaments had not Payne Stewart been killed just prior to his entry into the tour. Payne was far and away superior to Phil at his best. The Jack Nicklaus Fans need not worry about the record. Tiger may not even win 1 more major, much less 5...2010... The year the so called "Mighty" are falling.

It took Jack a 100 years to win 18 majors, tiger will win 18 or more majors in 20 years or less,Sean Ohair recently said that Tigers Woods would beat Jack and Bobby Jones with ease,I agree; If tiger is on his game and every-body else is on theirs, the rest don't stand a chance.

Jack is the best golfer of all time. Woods never faced the quality golfers Jack beat. I also don't think he is a good team player and would be a major distraction to our team

Tiger Woods is the greatest player of all times, his personal life is no-body business,Tiger Woods has more major titles then the entire ryder cup team, and more pga wins then the entire team,he deserves to be their more than anbody.

Corey;
This is your choice to make; we (USA) are trying to win this and he is still the number one player in the world. He is playing this week and possibly the next week before you need to make your choice. If he makes these cuts and shows the ability to help us win; that is what your choice needs to be based on.
You are looking for the best golfers; not the best family man. No one is condoning what he has done but we should also not forget what he has done for many around the world and here in the US.
Just pick him on his ability to help us win if he can.

The 108th player according to the fedex points does not deserve to be on the Ryder Cup I hope Pavin stands up for all those playing better than the tiger and selects someone who deserves it.

I sincerely hope and wish that Tiger wins it all. He has everything it takes, for one and as a universe-class athlete, deserves every oportunity to stand up and walk the green world again, for at least 30 moore years. As for his possible human errors, I only wish him to be a wiser man, with the same great luck and enjoy a long and happy love life. I am sure he has exceedingly prepaid his dues to sponsors, patrons, fans, journalists, collegues, friends and familiy. Any doubt?

Mr. Woods needs to have his left front tooth looked at by a dentist.

Corey, Do not I repeat do not choose Eldrick. He does not deserve the honor at this time.
