Wales' capital city is located about 20 miles from Newport and is a truly modern and cosmopolitan place with a nightlife to match. In the Cardiff Bay area you’ll find some stunning showpiece buildings: the Millennium Center - a fantastic arts and cultural venue, the spanking new slate-and-glass Welsh Parliament Building, and the city center, the Millennium Stadium with its ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ sliding roof. Nestled in a sheltered valley, surrounded like Rome by seven wooded hills and nourished by Britain’s only natural hot springs, Bath has been luring visitors with its obvious charms for well over 2000 years.

Bath is located approximately 90 minutes from Newport and the Celtic Manor Resort, but is the ideal area for a relaxing vacation while attending the 2010 Ryder Cup matches.

Porthcawl is located in the south of Wales, about one hour from the Celtic Manor, site of the 2010 Ryder Cup. This seaside town was developed as a port when coal was discovered. The port was built between two villages, Newton and Nottage. Newton was built by the Normans and the older Nottage is thought to be a Viking settlement. The new port had a shaky start as it was at the mercy of the gales and the lack of lighthouses made navigation difficult. Nash lighthouse was built in 1832 and the dock was deepened a few years later. The town grew and prospered, and wide streets of Victorian and Edwardian villas were built together with upper and lower promenades. Much of this development was due to the vision of one man whose name is kept alive in the town in the name of the main street - John Street - and the public house, the Brogden Arms.
