Eighth annual National Jobs in Golf Month now more relevant than ever

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Jobs in Golf Month, now in its eighth year, was created by The PGA of America to increase access to those interested in the wide variety of jobs available in the golf industry. The golf industry employs more than two million people in the U.S. in positions such as golf course management, food and beverage, retail sales and promotions. The PGA of America officially kicks-off its eighth annual national Jobs in Golf Month during the 2009 PGA Merchandise Show (Jan. 29-31). To drive awareness and attract interest of jobseekers and employers, The PGA of America designates February as "Jobs in Golf Month," promoting its complimentary employment services found at the online PGA Employment Center at PGA.com/employment. "Given our current economic climate, Jobs in Golf Month serves as the stimulus to remind people of the jobs and resources The PGA makes available on our online employment center," said Kathy Wilkes, director of employment services for The PGA of America. "We have jobs available in all areas of the golf industry, anywhere from golf shop staff, sales positions with golf equipment companies, food and beverage and many more. Although The PGA of America is the member association for PGA Professionals, our online job board also annually posts nearly 5,000 jobs in all areas of the golf industry." Geared toward both employers and jobseekers, the online PGA Employment Center serves as a clearinghouse of complimentary employment services. Through the site, employers can access nine region-specific career consultants or add job-postings to hire candidates interested in working in positions throughout the golf industry. Jobseekers looking to work in the golf industry can search the job database at PGAjobfinder, a subset of The PGA Employment Center. PGAjobfinder allows non-management level PGA Professionals and the general golfing public the opportunity to post resumes, apply for open positions and search for jobs throughout the golf industry. The PGA also offers CareerLinks, a complimentary employment referral service with nine regional PGA Employment Consultants based throughout the country to provide support to employers and PGA Professionals. The PGA also retains the services of a wage-and-hour consultant to help PGA Professionals and employers interpret labor laws and wage-and-hour information. About Jobs in Golf Month Launched in 2003, the Jobs in Golf Month campaign grew out of the 2002 Jobs in Golf Week and is designed to provide employment services to golf employers and potential employees. The PGA Jobs in Golf Month Campaign works with the PGA Employment Center, located online at PGA.com/employment.
