The first round is in the books at Bellerive Country Club. Though Gary Woodland has the lead, first-major-seeking Rickie Fowler and No. 1 Dustin Johnson are some of the names near the top of the 2018 PGA Championship leaderboard in the 100th playing of the PGA Championship.
Fowler led for much of the day after shooting a 65 at par-70 until Woodland surged into the lead at 6-under. Tiger Woods, part of a featured group with Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, shot an even 70. Woods recovered from being 3-over after two holes to get back to even. Defending champion Justin Thomas shot 1-under.
Here's where we stand headed to Friday's second round:
2018 PGA Championship leaderboard: Scores
1. Gary Woodland (-6): The 34-year-old Kansan has yet to finish in the top 10 of a major, but he leads the 100th PGA Championship at 6-under after Thursday. Woodland played the second nine at 5-under.
2. Rickie Fowler (-5): Instead of wearing dark blue as he originally planned, Fowler changed to yellow to honor the late Jarrod Lyle. The 36-year-old Australian died on Wednesday after a battle with cancer. Fowler had only one bogey in his round as he tries to win his first major.
T3. Zach Johnson, Brandon Stone (-4): It's another strong start in a major for Stone. At the Open Championship, he was 3-under after the first round before finishing tied for 61st. As for Zach Johnson, he birdied No. 18 to tie for third.

T47. Tiger Woods (Even): Playing in the PGA Championship for the first time since 2015, Woods started bogey-double bogey but saved his round by returning to even for the round. Woods played 3-under on the final 10 holes of his round to climb up the leaderboard.
T47. Rory McIlroy (Even): McIlroy, a two-time PGA Champion, posted only pars on the last nine holes of his round.
