BBC to offer unprecedented PGA Champ coverage

Golf fans throughout UK to receive unprecedented live coverage of the 2017 PGA Championship

(July 31, 2017) – For the first time, golf fans throughout the United Kingdom will have broad-base, multi-platform access to the PGA Championship, one of the world’s premier sports events, through the BBC’s live coverage, Aug. 10-13, and additional digital platforms with live streaming on Twitter and Give Me Sport’s Facebook page.

For golf fans throughout the UK, the strongest field in golf assembled at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, will be viewed continuously on the BBC’s red button interactive and digital platforms. Live coverage also is available on BBC2 toward the end of each day, including the conclusion of the Championship on Sunday, Aug. 13.

“The PGA of America is excited to bring the 2017 PGA Championship to millions of golf fans in the UK,” said PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Pete Bevacqua. “By delivering this season’s final major to fans of all ages across BBC, Facebook and Twitter, we hope to serve the core golf audience and invite new fans to enjoy Major Championship golf across the platforms they frequent.”

BBC Coverage will be led by Eilidh Barbour, alongside two of the premier announcers in the game, World Golf Hall of Famer Peter Alliss and Ken Brown. Additionally, BBC Radio5 live and sports extra also will broadcast live from the PGA Championship, led by Iain Carter and Jay Townsend. “We are delighted to be able to offer golf fans free-to-air television coverage of the PGA Championship,” said BBC Sport Director Barbara Slater, “bringing together the best players in the world over four exciting days of action from Quail Hollow Club.”

Additional coverage plans for the PGA Championship include:

• Live four-day coverage on Give Me Sport’s Facebook page and website which are accessed regularly by 750,000 golf fans in the UK.

• Live coverage of marquee groups on Twitter on all 4 days in the UK, Ireland and Japan as well as world feed access on Twitter in Latin America and the Caribbean. These locations will also feature regularly updated highlight clips on Twitter. Fans in these territories can access the broadcast on Twitter via @PGAChampionship on their mobile devices straight from Twitter's app, on desktop and on connected devices.
