Last weekend, I was traveling through the Lynchburg area on vacation, and planned to play golf with my wife. I called The Ivy Hill Gold Club more than a week in advance and set a tee time July 16. After traveling more than 5 hours to make the early tee time, we were informed by the club pro Eddie Moran that our tee time had been bumped due to a tournament that had gotten bigger than he thought it would. Even after telling him that we'd gladly go early (we arrived at 7:45am) or tee off from the back 9, he still refused to let us play. After offering our story of traveling so far, Mr. Moran would not accommodate us.

At this time, I asked for the name and contact number for the owner of the course. He refused to give this information, only saying that it was his fault, and I could have his contact information. Mr. Moran let us know that he could get us on another course for free in exchange for our trouble. Unfortunately, this led to two more untruths on his part. I asked if this course was comparable in quality, and he told me that it was "close." When we arrived, we saw that it wasn't even close. It was a poorly maintained 9-hole facility with limited facilities. The "free" rounds we were promised also didn't happen, as we were charged $24.00 when we checked-in. It was explained that we still had to pay the cart fee, which was not mentioned by Mr. Moran.

This poor excuse for customer service is unacceptable.

Ivy Hill Golf Club is one of the top course in central VA to play. Located in Forest, VA, Ivy Hill offer alot of difficulty for your average weekend golfer along with your lower handicapped player. Bermuda fairways with bent grass greens, rolling terrain (no walking allowed) and stunning views of the Ivy Hill community and Ivy Lake offer an enjoyable round of golf. The signature hole and #1 handicap hole is the par 4 7th. Playing from an elevated tee box, you must decide either to use a fairwood/hybrid or long iron off the tee because of Ivy Lake being in play 280 yards to the end of the fairway. Your approach shot must carry around 150-180 yards over Ivy Lake to the green sloped from back/right to front/left leading all shots and putts to break back toward the water and down to a hill that drops off about 20 feet. Another aspect of Ivy Hill that is unique is that it is one of few course that finish up with a par 3, playing from a slightly elevated tee having to carry a gully and the front facing bunker guarding the green. This is usually one of, if not the busiest, course in the area so check tee time availability first. Definitely a must play though if you're in the area.
